ARGHHHHHHHHHHH 3 weeks today and im in a new house!!!

And i dont know where to start!

We have viewed the new house twice, once yesterday, once today. Have taken measurements for blinds/curtains etc.

Ive got to pack this house up, try and arrange a van for my Aunt to drive because we cant afford removals, hump and dump the furniture between me (21wks pg atm) DH (screwed back and knees - medical discharge from army) Aunt - bit of a lightweight and 2 teenage boys that look like they will break in half!

Im scared of the prospect of being in a new house, the new house needs complete re-decoration throughout, we have very little money to do it, and we need to get this house spick and span to hand back to the MOD.

Sorry, just needed to rant! If anyone has a magic wand, can i borrow it!!!

You do not hump furniture at 21 weeks pregnant, I don't care if DH has no arms and legs he still does it before you do.
No idea what to suggest except maybe try freecycle for paint or wallpaper for the new house.

would love to see DH hump and dump the heavy stuff, but it just wont happen, unless i want him in hospital!

We will get there, i wont do too much but i do feel like i need a fairy godmother lol

I moved at 30 weeks pg, dh fairly capable of moving stuff but has bad ankles and knees so has to be really careful . We managed it all with just my dad to help - but we didn't have a suite to move which I guess is the biggest piece of furniture.

A tip - collect as many banana boxes from the supermarket as you can and pack your stuff in those - they are incredibly strong and easy to move around without killing yourself in the process. Also, put all clothes/bedding/toys in refuse sacks (and attach a label!) - fill them about half-full and again the weight is ok to handle - plus they are great for filling odd spaces in the vans.

Another tip - if you have chests of drawers, don't empty them! Take the drawers out and put the carcass in the van, then put the drawers back in, full to the brim - takes up less room that way!!

Wish i could fast forward 3 weeks and have it all done, but £500 for removals is not the sort of money we have to spare!

don't worry about the redecoration of the new place, it's amazing what you can learn to live with after a few weeks, do the baby's room when you get nesty and leave the rest till you have time money and inclination. good luck with the move.

did you get a council place in the end JARM??

If you are both not working, you could apply for a grant from the DWP to help with moving costs

thanks sparkly, but officially DH is still in the Army til the 5th august and we will be moving on the 4th! Nightmare all round!

We are going to do it over 2 days now so dad can help on the sunday - its the sofa thats the heaviest item as its a metal action sofabed!

i think the reality is just hitting now, a house that will be ours to do what we want to with it, the Housing Association have got some work to do in it, but im sure it will be livable for a while.

B&Q have got a huge paint sale on and I want to get it now, but we just cant afford it! ARGHHHHHH!
