Kitchen refurb advice

darlingtwinklebum · 04/04/2019 18:06

I'm due to have my kitchen refurbished next week.. the whole lot is being ripped out and replaced with nice new bits! Once the kitchen is done they'll start on the bathroom.
Has anyone got any advice on how to stay sane? I'm dreading the mess/having to cook/keeping the kids safe and out the way.
Guess I'm just starting to panic now that it's going to be a whole lot harder than I thought Confused

Def can’t relax as can hear whistling and music Grin I’m on pins (so is the dog) incase they need anything. @dirty that sounds expensive!

darlingtwinklebum · 08/04/2019 15:49

@dirtystinkyrats oh no that must've been stressful! I am just waiting for something to go wrong although today is the first day so we'll see.. I'm hoping there won't be any problems and it can all be done quickly!

The builders have just left for the day.. everything's ripped out, all the wallpaper is off and the flooring is up. Must say they didn't stop all day not even for lunch! And they've put all the new units in the kitchen ready to go in tomorrow Grin

I’ve just got back from a Greggs lunch, had pizza last night, this isn’t going well for the diet! But all ripped out, base units starting to be put together, getting exciting.

@Villanellesproudmum glad yours is coming along.. we've got most of the cupboards in and they're just about to start on the worktops
Yeah I agree with you about the diet part Cake
Mines not doing too well either

@darling we are at about that stage but only lower level cupboards. I’ve got a skip on the street so monitoring it every 2 minutes. I’m ready to pounce out in the street and scream at anyone who dares to fly tip. 💪

@Villanellesproudmum I'm the same Grin you can take whatever you can find out of it but don't dare put stuff in we've got enough as it is! Keep me updated on how yours is getting on

I may have fashioned a camera out of my dash cam focused into the skip Blush one of my friends has now called me Victor Meldrew! I’m now embarrassing myself 😂

@darling how is yours coming along. Mine was going ok until I realised my oven and hob had been thrown. The only items I was keeping, they had forgotten! They were fairly old. 12 years but wanted to reuse. New ones coming next week.. Also a socket installed too close to the sink so electrical certification can’t be completed. Hopeful it’ll come right in the end Wine

I'm worried about them tossing stuff out I want to keep.
I might sellotape a note to the dishwasher and cupboards destined for the utility room

darlingtwinklebum · 13/04/2019 09:13

@Villanellesproudmum oh no that is a nightmare! We've not had too many problems other than half the cupboard doors haven't arrived so some are done and some aren't. New bath isn't going to be in stock for a few weeks apparently so that's setting the bathroom back a little bit. Nothing major thank goodness!

It gets worse, honestly not making this up. I’m tempted to put up photos. Currently have Western Power (just made five coffees) digging up mine and my neighbours front gardens, power to the house has failed and they are trying to find the source. Street has barriers on it blocking access.

I’ve also just returned from A&E having dropped the builder off who has sliced off the top of his finger.

Kitchen is nearly finished though.

darlingtwinklebum · 19/04/2019 08:44

@Villanellesproudmum no! I thought I was having it bad but that's another level
They've started on the bathroom here and we've had a few leaks and now when I pull the plug from the bath the water just spills out into the back garden instead of into the drain Hmm oh also came home last night to see that we had a new toilet in but it hadn't been plumbed in because they were missing a part.. had to pour water in the toilet to 'flush'! Thankfully none of us needed a poo (tmi apologies) Confused
