Is it to early to get a valuation

DP and I are thinking of moving to a bigger house, before we can put our current house on the market we need to finish off some jobs:

Tile kitchen and put plinth under cupboards;
Paint stairs and landing
New flooring in hallway
Paint bathroom (looks a complete state at the moment).

Basic question is, is there any point in getting some estate agents in, explaining what work we're going to do and asking for a ball park valuation?

Will make life much easier when it comes to identifying which areas we could move to.

Yes, you can do that. We did it with ours to make sure we were heading in the right direction in terms of sorting this house out. We also asked them what we could do to maximise value (but haven't got round to doing much about it yet).

Doesn't sound like they are big jobs. Do as much as poss beforehand ,ie painting and plinths perhaps leaving the bigger expenses like the tiling and floor and asking EA advice as to what would help sell most quickly as well as add value.

Our agent gave us good advice eg
we were going to change the landing/stairs carpet, but he said not to bother but to totally declutter the entrance hall.
Also to decorate the kitchen walls and put down cheap lino rather than put in a new kitchen.
Fix the leaky garage roof and store all our 'clutter; in the garage.
Improve the outside appearance for 'kerb appeal'.
Sold to the first viewer.

Thanks, that's the problem with my obsession with 'House Doctor' type programs.

Am now convinced that the house has to be completely immaculate and look like a show home. Think I could be going a little over the top, especially as it only a 2 bed semi starter home
