Longing to buy a house

Did anyone ever feel like they were never going to buy a house?
I admit DH and I are lucky in that we have the means to move (deposit, in rented, have solicitors etc) but through a combination of pure bad luck and awful housing market here in the SE it feels like we'll never buy a house.

We're so desperate to move, actually longing for a house and to do simple things like hang my washing out to dry ha! This current funk in the market is not helping either

What was the pure bad luck that got in the way, if you don't mind saying?

We started by buying a flat (condominium actually) as a way of getting on the property ladder, then sold that and got a proper house.

I have to admit to a certain level of curiosity about your handle. Are you a fan of American Football?

We were in a chain for a long period of time during the property boom. The seller had no intention of moving and so when we had to pull out, the same houses were going for 100k more which of course we needed to stay put and save the extra deposit needed. Prices went through the roof and we were priced out. Finally got to a good position again but the last house we tried to buy we were gazumped on.

I do like NFL but the Jaguar cat is my favourite so I thought I'd use it.

It must be an odd name to use seeing as I'm in the UK

A bit. I'm a Yank and don't often see references to American football teams here. I'm a Giants fan myself. Smile

Sorry to hear about how you lost out the last time. We're now in our second house together and bought this one in 2003. Hopefully we're not moving anytime soon.

Plan for repairs. I'm sitting in the kitchen, home from work today as we're having half the roof and four leaky skylights replaced. It's always something.

DH is a huge fan, he used to play it for years until a really bad injury forced him to stop (he'd still play if I'd let him)

I'm finding that nothing suitable is coming to the market in the SE, and the properties that have been on for a while are massively overpriced and is therefore the reason they don't sell quickly!

Must be to do with the uncertainty of Brexit - i'm hoping it will pick up at the start of April (and when its officially Spring!).

JacksonvilleJaguars · 18/03/2019 18:09

Exactly the same for us @jenke003

Good for you. It's an insanely violent. dangerous sport. Every year kids are injured or killed playing it. There isn't a chance in hell I'd let DS play it. He rows crew instead.
