Solicitors final bill much higher

So we are in the process of buying our new home and we received a quote from direction law solicitors at the start which was around £1,300. We complete in a few days and we just got a bill of outstanding payment of almost £1,700. We even paid £250 deposit at the start which means the final bill is around £1950.

Is this normal practice? What can I do about this? Any advise I'll be grateful

I would suggest querying exactly what ‘dealing with’ the rent charge document actually means.

Interesting. I've never worked for a firm where that was an option.

"Dealing with" the rent charge document will mean reading it, checking it makes sense and is legal, making sure the lender is ok with the terms of it, explaining it to the clients and having them sign it.

Solicitors fees are often listed as an amount plus VAT and Disbursements. The Disbursements would be the search fees, LR fees etc.
