Hi all

Looking at a new house which is not on mains gas so they have installed an ASHP & electric under floor heating.

Anyone have any experience of this?

Owners tell me it is 'very efficient ' and 'cheap' but if course it is in their interest to sell it Wink

I have just built a house with one and am confident it was a sensible decision. No gas in the location. Estate agents marketing house think it is a big plus . I researched it thoroughly. Have a wood burning stove too but really just got visual effect . I’d go for it !

There is always a balance between comfort and cost. Several different systems have their place in the market.
Underfloor heating is fine if you are at home a lot as it has to be on all the time, others are out all day at work and prefer a more adaptable and responsive system allowed by radiators.
Some people are happy to have background heating and are prepared to light a fire or woodburner when necessary.
Our choice is to always have hot water when we need it, and are not prepared when we arrive home to wait for hours to be comfortable. That for us means an oil fired radiator system.
Heat pumps provide low temperature water suitable for underfloor heating left on constantly but only heat hot water to perhaps 40 c if your lucky. Electricity is used to bring the water up to temperature. Add that to the electricity used by the heat pump and you then realise why a 3 phase electricity supply is needed.
I have never met an honest person who has not been shocked by their electricity bill when using a heat pump.
Remember many people are embarrassed to admit that they have made the wrong decision. Locally a couple showed the buyers of their house their electricity bill to show how economic the system was. They failed to mention that they only used the place at weekends!

water underfloor heating - sigh, I nearly stayed with my horrible XDH to keep mine. It was cheap to run, very manageable and I loved it. Do check how many different zones there are, we had a zone per room pretty much (self-build) so we could have toasty warm bathrooms and fresher bedrooms.
