My eldest is currently at Belper school. Cannot fault it, DS is doing really well there. The primary schools are all excellent too. And as a pp said we do have schools for children with special educational needs right on our doorstep as well.

I love living in this part of the world. Anything you want to know/ ask, feel free to message me.

My niece is at St. John’s primary in Belper and loves it. My best friend’S son is at Pottery primary and also loves it.

Just general everyday clothes. Not sure about PE kit, never had a PE kit uniform when I was there.

OK op I had a long answer about Allestree but I see you are looking at Belper, it's a lovely busy town with a good range of services eg nice cinema, pool, shops, cafes.

School would be Belper school, too far from Woodlands (I mean fir your ds) but that's fine too.

Holbrook which someone mentioned is for people who can't manage in mainstream so not yr ds. Pm me if you want more details

ladyspongecake · 08/02/2019 16:14

at the moment ds goes to the same school as dh (he`s a teacher) and its 13 miles.

ladyspongecake · 08/02/2019 16:17

dh will be at interview at woodlands next week (yay!) so if possible hed visit belper while hes there....even just to say ello , plus as a driveby of belper get a teeny feel of the area.

OP posts:
ladyspongecake · 08/02/2019 16:19

although the jobs at woodlands, wed prefer ds to be at the local school to where he lives if we feel its right. rightmove looks positive as well, plenty to see in our budget.

Be aware that commuting into Derby at rush hour can be totally rubbish. Especially down some of the busy country roads (and the A38 just grinds to a halt)

ladyspongecake · 08/02/2019 16:50

good point on that

OP posts:
clary · 08/02/2019 19:33

Yes but I doubt if he would get a ace at Woodlands from Belper, the area is perhaps more heavily populated than where you live by the sounds of it.

Commute-wise, Belper to Allestree is only 20 mins and if you are a teacher chances are you're doing that at 7.30 rather than 8.30 so it'll be fine. What's the job op (nosey)

clary · 08/02/2019 19:33

A place at Woodlands I meant 😁

CurlsandCurves · 08/02/2019 20:47

They wear their own clothes to school, although for the boys there is a very clear uniform of joggers, tshirts and hoodies, lol.

I know it’s unusual for secondary schools in this country but honestly once they are there, you don’t think about it, it’s a total non issue. The head is pro uniform, and we will have the debate at some stage I think. But for now he’s not addressed it.

ladyspongecake · 08/02/2019 21:24

deputy design tech i think

OP posts:
ladyspongecake · 08/02/2019 21:26

ds would fit in there then lol

Belper is a GREAT town, so much going on.

My daughter has asd and is in Y7 at Belper School. Feel free to pm me 😊.

Jimpix · 09/02/2019 18:32

The commute to allestree would be better along the A6 rather than A38.

ladyspongecake · 09/02/2019 19:33

thanks so much! just hope dh does well thursday! x

OP posts:
clary · 09/02/2019 20:56

Good luck to dh op, neither of my two do DT any more do he won't get them in his interview lesson!

WindsfromtheNE · 09/02/2019 21:22

I know Belper well too. Nice place and lots of independent shops and restaurants. Even in rush hour, the traffic in town isn't too bad. Good for access to Derby (thought not keen on Derby myself, big drug problem) Nottingham and the Peaks. Property prices are reasonable too.
