Hi,
Can someone send me some links please? Its for my kitchen backsplash and the switches are really basic, cheap, ugly ones at present.

I find square, white, plastic ones attractive.

What do you find attractive?

For a kitchen, I like the satin nickel flat plate ones (Horizon Classic) made by Focus. Also available in many other finishes such as matt white, bronze, antique brass, matt black, paintable etc.

They cost roughly a squillion times as much as white plastic, sadly.

I like the MK edge range. www.screwfix.com/p/mk-edge-2-gang-13a-dp-switched-plug-socket-brushed-stainless-steel/639ff we spec these on most of our projects.

However if you have the budget check out wandsworth, lovely wiring accessories in all sorts of finishes.

I get mk edge like above or varilight but straight from suppliers on ebay for much cheaper than screwfix or electrical supplier. I've done 3 properties now in them. They look modern and the flat finish looks great against any splashback in a kitchen.

Where can you buy them though?

SDS London sell them (the Horizon classic is sold as “flat plate radius corner”) but plenty of others will too. For example I did a google shopping search for Focus SB Horizon and UK electrical supplies comes up as a seller. Some finishes are easier to find than others. I think you may be able to buy directly from Focus but not sure.

There are other similar premium flat plates around too eg MK Edge and Wandsworth as mentioned above, also Schneider (bit cheaper than the others I think), BG, Crabtree.

Be aware that flat plate sockets require a deeper back box in the wall to hold the wiring, 35mm rather than 25mm. So if you’re just looking to change the front plate you may struggle if you’ve only got 25mm boxes. In that case you would either need to get the deeper box put in, or you could look at something like this BG Nexus Metal range which only needs 25mm as it’s not flat.

Minipie as I am also tiling the backsplash at the same time hopefully that will provide enough depth for the flat range. Thanks for the help.

Jim Lawrence switches and sockets are absolutely gorgeous but expensive.
