Making curtains

I am making curtains for my kids' room, and the one and only fabric they can agree on is a quilting cotton with a 110cm width. It has helpfully been discontinued, so I can only get enough for 1.5 fullness, and the Internet tells me I need 2x fullness or they will look "skimpy". I'm planning on interlining with cotton bump, and putting blackout lining on too. Do I really need 2x fullness??? Really???

My mum always makes my curtains and she has done various tricks when the fabric isn’t the right size (often due to my measuring errors!). She has joined two pieces together horizontally and you really can’t tell. She has also extended curtains by adding band of fabric in the middle. It just looks part of the design.

If you don’t use all the fabric then you could make cushions or pillowcases to match.

Not horizontally, vertically!

Order it again and use the cut pieces for cushion covers?!

How about making roman blinds instead of curtains. The joins could be positioned on the fold lines helping to obscure them.

For what it's worth when I make curtains for kids rooms I buy a couple of cheap duvet covers in a pattern they linand sew some blackout fabric inside them and hem the bottom and header tape on the top. It seems to be the easiest way to get large fabric cheaply. Afternoon is on both sides of the curtains which looks nice in their rooms and not too worried about it fading as they'll probably get changed every few years anyway.

Pattern not afternoon wtf!

Actually it was my first ever Google image search [preens]

I hope you get it sorted out. Making curtains is one of my nightmare chores. I really like Harrison's idea, though. Sounds very cunning.

If you end up not using all the material and want to make accessories this beanbag is a dead easy make (though I don't know the age of your children, so possibly too small) projectnursery.com/2014/05/diy-kids-bean-bag-chair/
