Where should I rent in Bromley?

I am planning on starting work close to Bromley South Train station and want to relocate to a nice area closeby or (someplace within a good commutable distance) where there are good nurseries for my nearly 3 year old daughter and the rents are reasonable. Since I am new to London I would really appreciate the help!

What type of property are you looking for and what is your budget?

A 2 bedroom flat for around 1200 but could possibly go a bit higher if need be. I hope it's not too ambitious!

I can’t help with Nursery advice but Bromley Common/Chatterton Rd area is good for bus links to Bromley South (you could even walk it!)

There is a 2 bed maisonette for rent for 1099 pm on Widmore Rd. Easy walk to work, just over half a mile. Near Ashgrove School (prep) but takes children from 3. For state schools you are near La Fontaine free school and St George's Church of England (and another I know nothing about).

There is also a 2 bed flat at 19 Southland s Grove for 1275 pm - you may be able to negotiate. You could have a look at St George's Pre School - look at the website for St George's Church Bickley and there is a link - lots of info on free hours and prices and their open days.

Both on Rightmove.

Thanks Ladylapsang and Mynameisajane. I was looking through some of the old posts from 2013 regarding Bromley Common and someone said it was a bit rough? Is that still the case? Also, would moving somewhere a bit closer to kent be cheaper rent wise? Someplace where there is a direct train into Bromley South?

The two I have posted are not on Bromley Common and yes, I would say it probably is as there is more social housing (although people that live there may disagree). To be honest, I think there would not be much in it, if you save on commuting and have more time with your daughter. Houses on Southland s Grove go for approx 450 - 1300 k so not rough. Widmore Rd is busy. You could move out to somewhere such as Sevenoaks, annual season ticket to Bromley South just under 1700. Lots of rentals in your budget. I don't know any of the schools there apart from the independent which is very good.

Thanks! Will start the research into these areas

I would say that the Chatterton Rd area isn’t that rough, there are a lot of Victorian built houses and Raglan school has the tiniest catchment so I would say the immediate locality is young families. I’m a little further away but drive through that area.
