Cost of a replacement sash window

Hi all

I'm an overseas landlord and need to replace a sash window in a victorian terrace. I've had a quote via our agent for 1,300 pounds. The quote doesn't state if this includes VAT.

My basic research suggest this is quite high. It's a back bedroom so not a huge window - probably 1.4m by 1.2 m. I'm not sure if this includes scaffold. The replacement would be uPVC.

Can anyone advise? It's in the South East so costs will be higher than other parts of the country.

TIA.

We paid about 2k inc vat for a wooden one 6 years ago. Sash windows are expensive!

We paid several thousand for a wooden one too. They are dear.

We paid £500 for a large uPVC one but we are in the Midlands and it was about ten years ago. Al's didn't include fitting

I paid £750 for a UPVC sash a few years ago (Yorkshire) that was approx 1mx2m.

Thanks all. I think I'll have to get another quote. Our agent is normally really good but it just seems a lot. We can get a non sash UPVC for 900 but I think we need to stick with sash for resale.

We pay £1200 per window inc vat (have had a few done separately as they were needed). Wooden not upvc. Bigger than yours but not in the SE.

Get some more quotes. We have just had a sash replaced with uPVC sash and it cost £600. We are in the SE too.

Wow, thanks all. There seems to be such a spread of costs.

I have requested another quote from the agent. If they don't sort it I'll have to do some late night phone calls! The time difference to down under is a pain.
