Shall I move to Cumbria, and where?

What's it like to live there? I realise it's huge and I don't know where to start looking. Rightmove has thrown up 1,200 detached houses! Are there any parts that you would recommend or warn against?

Work would be at a hospital as DP is NHS. I'll do ... something, I suppose.

I'm dreaming of nice long walks with my non-existent dogs in beautiful natural surroundings, fresh air and snow in the winter.

One of my friends moved from the south to Cumbria a year ago for the same reasons. They are not in the "Lake District National Park" though - near Penrith, but they love it, the countryside, the walks, the people, the pace of life. Be warned though, it rains a lot!

I live in Cumbria so ask away. Penrith has great transport connections. Small hospital though.
Major hospital are Carlisle or Whitehaven. Cheaper to live there.
Eden valley was just voted 5 th best place to live.
And it doesn’t rain all the time !!

Eden Valley very nice, Ulverston, Kendal nice. Towns/ villages in the Lake District are sometimes a bit dead in off season as so many second homes
