Our lovely new bathroom and en-suite were masticked yesterday and I think it looks like a mess Sad. What do you think? Thanks.

the first picture looks like they’ve used way too much, but third picture looks pretty ok (sorry i can’t tell what i’m looking at in the middle picture). the guys who fitted our bathroom last year did a not-great job but we were able to ask for tiles etc to be fixed as we went along. they rushed the sealant/silicone on the last day & by the time we noticed it was set.

my dad was able to scrape most of the excess off with a blade and re-do it himself so it looks perfect now. you shouldn’t have to do it yourself though so see if the workmen will come back?

ILoveMarmiteToo · 26/01/2019 14:35

Thanks. The middle picture is of the side of the loo - they seem to have used way too much mastic and it’s come away from the loo. The third pic also looks like they have used way too much too. This was supposed to have been done by a professional mastic man but I could have done a better job Angry. Luckily we haven’t paid the plumber yet and owe him about £6,000 so hopefully it can be scraped off and redone. Here are more pics - the last one is what I expected the loo to look like but the middle is what we got. We waited for the floor to be put done before installing the loo so no gap to fill.

Not only is it not a very good job, I'm not sure it shouldn't be clear sealant in some places for a better finish.

GrumpySausage · 26/01/2019 14:44

I agree with you OP, it does look very thick and wobbly. I would t be happy if this was in my brand new bathroom.

We had a new bathroom 6 months ago and ours is much thinner. Also our plumber used a clear mastic and it looks much neater and discreet. If this can be removed, maybe ask for clear?

namechangedtoday15 · 26/01/2019 14:47

No. Awful.

MrsChollySawcutt · 26/01/2019 14:56

Its dreadful, looks like they have applied too thickly anyway straight from the mastic gun and then left it without neatening edges etc.

ILoveMarmiteToo · 26/01/2019 15:01

Thank you. I wonder if the Mastic Man sent his 2 year old instead.

He has used clear round the floor but that looks awful too.

Op I'm sorry but you are right ,it's shocking.
It needs re doing .
IMO No way is that a professional job.
(DH is a plumber & very fussy with finishes)

Oblomov19 · 26/01/2019 15:25

Awful. Really awful.
Have you phoned him?

ILoveMarmiteToo · 26/01/2019 16:28

Just been to our bathroom shop and they said no way was that a professional mastic man. The plumber is going to come and see it on Monday.

Nope absolutely not, that’s awful.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 26/01/2019 16:41

Bloody hell I did better than that at my first attempt! Hope you get it sorted Op!

GrumpySausage · 26/01/2019 21:42

The clear is terrible! I hope you get it sorted.

ILoveMarmiteToo · 28/01/2019 16:56

Apparently the mastic will be removed tomorrow and a different mastic man (who worryingly has the same first name as the original one, but is apparently not the same one) will re do it on Wednesday.... 🤞🤞

If I'd done it I'd be really pleased with myself. It would be my most successful attempt yet. If I was paying I would not be happy.

BertyFlanter · 28/01/2019 19:37

Glad that it is being re done OP. As per PPs that is shocking 😮
If you are there when they are redoing it make sure they wear gloves when smoothing it over. Lots do it with fingers but the germs on fingers can cause it to look manky prematurely with mould and fungus.

AFistfulofDolores1 · 28/01/2019 19:55

Two words: shit mastic.

ILoveMarmiteToo · 31/01/2019 19:39

One of our builders has redone it and I’m feeling much happier Smile

Lilmisskittykat · 31/01/2019 20:19

Such a huge difference ! Glad you got it fixed - enjoy your new bathroom x

wowfudge · 01/02/2019 07:54
