I don't have a question for you, PigletJohn. I just want to express my appreciation after noticing you responding to so many requests for your help. It's very kind and generous of you - so a big thank you, you're a top bloke. Star

Massive thank you from me as well - I like the renaming idea Grin

stayathomegardener · 22/01/2019 11:33

Do you suppose HQ should consider long time service medals?

I've never had to ask @PigletJohn a question as have good reliable plumbers but it's still nice knowing I could.

I've certainly heeded some of his timely reminders that I'm sure have saved issues further down the line.

Sproutingcorm · 22/01/2019 11:38

Yes to a Mumsnet Honours list/medals etc! (Well they created a special flag for the long-running Archers thread, so it's clearly not impossible!)

It might be no bad thing for Mumsnet HQ to encourage rational, polite, helpful posters nowadays either!

I always wondered before tagging how does PigletJohn know when he's mentioned? There'd be a thread in Chat or whatever called something random with a mention of PJ in the post and always there he'd be answering it. How do you know PigletJohn?

notthe1Parrot · 22/01/2019 12:32

Another voice of thanks - we have learned so much from PJ.

Somebody beat me to it. Are we sure PigletJohn is a bloke?
Great thread OP. I too have asked PJ things, so 3 cheers to both of you from me.

Rarfy · 22/01/2019 18:59

Helped me out a few times so have to add my appreciation too! Very knowledgeable and always more than happy to help. Lovely!

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 22/01/2019 19:02

I think we should sell tee shirts with 'PigletJohn helped me ' on - wonder how long it would be until we see random 'I am PigletJohn' tee shirts ( like I am the Stig ones)

PizzaPlanet · 22/01/2019 21:59

You gave me some excellent advice once on how the fixings worked to put my wall unit up. You were more helpful than Google in that instance and I was on the brink of trying to find a tradesman. You definitely need a mumsnet legend award🥇

Iggi999 · 22/01/2019 22:42

Yep, helped me too. I feel I need to be careful what I ask though in case it’s like a genii in a bottle and you only get three goes.

PigletJohn · 22/01/2019 23:22

Actually, I'm very touched.

It's nice to feel useful.

poshme · 22/01/2019 23:29

THIS
Oooh good post. I always read a post if I see PigletJohn’s commented cos I know they’re sensible, detailed and really helpful even if of no immediate applicability to a practical matter in my life or house. Thanks PJ!

poshme · 22/01/2019 23:31

Also- if my LPG boiler isn't firing, but my tank says it's got LPG in it, is there any chance my boiler is fine, and I've just run out of gas?

WunderBlah · 22/01/2019 23:44

I'll have a go.

Unlikely tank is empty if not in the red, does it have an autofeedback refill system or do you order fuel manually? If so double check if you will be due an order soon.

Is the pressure on the boiler reading ok? Are there any error flashing codes you can look up? Is it under warranty?

It is a while since I have had an LPG tank (so this may have changed) but do know that if the tank for whatever reason runs dry you need a professional in to sort the boiler, it is a big deal and you should not mess with it.

poshme · 22/01/2019 23:47

Thanks.
Ancient System. No error codes- just not firing up.
Tank is manual ordering- never let it get this low before (my bad)

Have no intention of attempting boiler fixing myself!

NowYouHaveDoneIt · 22/01/2019 23:47

Those eyes have really creeped me out!!.

TheSilveryPussycat · 22/01/2019 23:54

Another Piglet John fan here. But I too am freaked out by those eyes Confused

WunderBlah · 23/01/2019 00:11

Yeah if tank is manual ordering then it is old too presumably so there is a chance the gauge is knackered. I would call the LPG company in the morning and ask if an order is due and if there is a chance it is empty, they may get a priority delivery to you and can hopefully recommend a local engineer to check it all over for you. Hope that helps, better safe than sorry!

WunderBlah · 23/01/2019 00:18

www.gassaferegister.co.uk/ You can find an engineer here too.

NamedyChangedy · 23/01/2019 00:21

I'm another fan of PG, he's one of the good ones! I often read his posts even when they're not relevant just to bask in his expertise.

NannyNick is another one who's deserving of some sort of award, he's been a font of useful information on here for absolute yonks.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 23/01/2019 00:25

Many thanks from me also!!!

Got my cooker hood lights fixed on your advice, as simple as not touching the bulbs, but we were stuck and considering calling out an electrician!!! Thank you so much for sparing me the embarrassment and cost!
