Nice village/area near Doncaster

Hi all. I recently moved to Cusworth in Doncaster, from Scotland. I very much like Cusworth and the primary school is fantastic but it’s just a little too close to Doncaster town centre and everything that comes with a town centre.
Can anyone recommend somewhere within 30 mins drive to Doncaster station (need this station as it’s a direct line for my Mum who visits often)? Ideally around £150,000-£180,000 for a 3 bed. A good primary school is my highest priority, I have a 2 year old. It’s a shame because we are Saltersgate catchment at the moment but it’s just too close to town for me.
Any help very much appreciated!

BAwtry?
Tickhill?

GeorgeTheHippo · 19/01/2019 07:49

Not at that price I don't think?

Fozzleyplum · 19/01/2019 07:52

My friend lives in Sprotbrough, which is a lovely village. I don't know what the house prices are like though, but Rightmove will tell you.

Kayleyt · 19/01/2019 07:53

Unfortunately Bawtry and Tickhill are totally out of budget 😭

The village side of Sprotbrough is also out of budget unfortunately! I need to win the lottery 😂

I'm from Doncaster. I grew up in Barnby Dun which is (or at least was!) a nice village area about 20 minutes' drive from Doncaster station. My parents moved there in the 90s so I could go to Barnby Dun Primary School, which then was very good (no idea what it's like now I'm afraid). Based on my parents' house, a 3 bed there is bang in your price range Smile

Thanks BlueArtemis, you’re right, good school and within budget! My only issue is I’ve just seen it’s in the flood risk area, did you ever have any experience of this?

Might be slightly too far out but I live in a little market town called Snaith, it takes me 30 minutes to drive into Doncaster for work. It's a lovely little place and you'd certainly find a 3 bed in your price range (I bought here last year and got a 3 bed semi for 170k). The schools are brilliant, the primary school my children attend is rated outstanding and they have been absolutely wonderful - they also do loads of big shows/events that all the children get involved in. Partner commutes to Leeds for work and Sheffield isn't too far for work either. Great place :)

What about villages like
Bessacarr
Auckley
Epworth
Belton
Wadworth

Or you could look further towards Retford (Blyth village or surrounding)
I haven't lived in Doncaster for many years but I still have some family there.

North lincs side of Thorne is about 20 mins drive from Doncaster station, isle of axholme villages should fit your budget. Good safe areas/ schools for children.

Thanks for all your replies, all very useful!
I can’t actually find anything for sale in Snaith Angel, which is a shame as it sounded promising.

This was a 3-bed reconfigured to be a 2-bed. Maybe it could be changed back?

NothingOriginalHere I have just had to google what Isle of Axholme is, it’s a pretty big area but as you said very much in budget, thanks!

Thanks for the link chocolate. I absolutely need a second floor though, I work from home and my mum has my little boy half the week at mine too, I need a floor to drown out the noise while I’m trying to make calls 😂

I have a friend who just moved from Doncaster to Crowle in the Isle of Axeholme for all the reasons you have listed. I don't know the area but it might be worth investigating.

Within your half hour drive to Doncaster station criteria, straight up the A1. Very well regarded village in the area with a strong community and primary school rated outstanding.
