Moving from Bristol to Devon- removal hire

So we are moving from Bristol to Devon, the place in Devon is just under 2 hours away.

Not until February but we moved a 3 bedroom house last year & I know how early you have to start packing!

A lot is still packed from last September but it's the move itself I need advise on.

We are very keen on hiring men and a van to move us, a fair amount of heavy things but we got rid of a lot in the last move, but still with a baby & another child we need help rather then just hiring a van ourselves.

What should I expect to pay to be moved so far? We are cash strapped and I'm dreading the cost but hiring a van ourselves is just going to be impossible as although my partner could drive it he can't move everything on his own

Any advice appreciated!

Id just call up pickfords (or any national company) and ask for a quote, the price is more on the size of the property (loft spaces, garages, as well as rooms) rather than the distance if thats any comfort!.

@Timeforabiscuit yes that is more reassuring as we managed to fit everything into a low loader type can last time rather then a lorry! I'll try Pickford's first

If you try local firms, it is worth getting quotes from firms in the area you are moving to, as well as ones in the area you are moving from. They may well have different prices and availability.

Thanks @Needmoresleep, the area we are moving to is cheaper generally then where we are now so I'll contact some local firms too then

Not affiliated to them in any way bit I have used Rose Removals in Crediton 3 times and they are brilliant. They will do as little or as much as you want - last time we went for the full packing service and it was so stress free! Plus the guys are so friendly, and competent, I would use them again and again.

ChampooPapi · 03/01/2019 11:51

@NoSixPlease that could definitely work as its around the half way point, I'll give them a try for a quote too

No local knowledge but when we moved, Pickfords was three times the price of the very good local firm that we opted for.

lots33 no local knowledge here either, but i got 3 quotes and pickfords was cheapest!

Local ones had loads of added contigencies and penalty fees like if the move was delayed for more than 2 hrs and if it was past 5 pm we would be charged the unpacking into a storage unit and thenanother re-packing fee.

Pickfords guy just said they either stay till the jobs done or drive back to their depot and try again the next day, no drama.
