Refitting a kitchen - Could you put an oven in a corner?

A high up oven (eyelevel?) in a corner at an angle with either worksurface going up the sides of it or boxed into a square?

I'd lose a bit of floor space but would have good worksurface either side to put hot things on

I've a vague recollection of that being a no go via building regs.

SophieGiroux · 28/12/2018 21:21

Sounds ok to me

dudsville · 28/12/2018 21:28

I don't know building regs but i wouldn't like 2 or 3 walls surrounding open flames (gas).

dudsville · 28/12/2018 21:28

Sorry, you said oven! Yes we have an oven against a real on the corner.

Happilyacceptingcookies · 28/12/2018 21:29

How accessible will it be in the corner in terms of getting things in and out of it? I'm thinking roast dinner on a big dish and banging elbows?!

dudsville · 28/12/2018 21:30

Mine's easy re access.

KatyMac · 28/12/2018 21:35

So it would be at an angle?

The hob would be somewhere else

Our hob is across a corner if that makes sense and the previous owners had an oven under it. It does lose some space but the kitchen is large so that doesn't matter and it means the "triangle" works when it wouldn't otherwise due to windows/doors/exterior walls

Oh I found a picture - I thought I was being clever Hmm

I am not intending on having wall units

Yes the oven has to be on the long wall but then end wall would be better

We have a big lounge/dining/kitchen & I am struggling a bit with the kitchen bit which is 2.9 by 4m

Can you get under counter fridges & freezers with drawers?

OP posts:
Nix32 · 28/12/2018 21:49

Yes, definitely re. Under counter fridges and freezers. Our oven is at an angle in the corner, with the hob on top.

KatyMac · 28/12/2018 21:53

I am having more mobility issues, so if I am redesigning I want it easy access

I think eyelevel oven/grill may be easier
I wonder about the drawers being easier for fridge/freezer but I'm not sure

My mum had a grabrail all the way round a deeper worksurface - she used it to hang teatowels on but I wondered if that could look like a streamlined feature and double as a safety feature

I have my microwave on a corner, DH made a hanger for it (hangs below corner cupboard) so I also have workspace below.
