Can you tell me your top tips for making our hallway tidier.
We have 4 kids and 2 adults. We need a good storage system for our coats, school bags, hats, some shoes etc. Open doored would be ideal and poles for the coats nor hooks as previously we had damp behind the coats. We seen the ikea elvari system. anyone tried this?
What works in your house? Or anywhere you have seen? Thanks!

We had a shoe storage system built for us, and it is fantastic. Big plastic baskets live in each section and shoes go in those, and then the ones on top have hats/gloves/dog leads in them. Everything is nice and tidy and we had it just as we wanted. It didn't cost that much to have done either

CMOT that sounds an interesting way of doing it. Did you design it? Did a joiner build it?

Yes, I designed it and then my wonderful handyman built it having taken my scribbles and worked it all out. It means it fits round the odd shape in the hall and was actually big enough to deal with all our sports kit and a basket for the dog stuff

We have a modular unit from The Dormy House - you can combine parts to suit your set up. I absolutely love mine! Very well made and solid. Not cheap, but cheaper than the quote we had from a joiner to make a bespoke one. We have open shelves for shoes and boots on the bottom, then slim drawers for hats and gloves. Two cupboards above for handbags/ shopping bags, and for baskets containing swimming kit/ out of season stuff like sun hats. We have a long row of coathooks next to it (above radiator) but you could look into whether they can also do an open fronted wardrobe.

I am also very interested in this, if anyone has pics they wouldn’t mind sharing I would love to see.

I second Dormy House furniture. In our last house they built it bespoke to our specifications. We had to leave it behind when we moved though :(

I built this ikea Elvarli unit for an built-in cupboard. Dead easy to build and you can customise it to include all the stuff you need, it comes in two different widths too. Looks really classy I think and is very sturdy (it doesn't need to fix to the wall)

I’ve seen on Pinterest where people put billy bookcases in their built in cupboards for shoe storage. I think they are quite flexible and you can add extra shelves and make some shelves closer together and some further apart depending on the height of shoes/boots. This is what I’m going to do (eventually!)
