WWYD: damage caused by carpenter (with photos)

I hired a carpenter yesterday to cut and rehung a number of doors after I had new carpets laid on Friday.

He arrived at exactly the same time as my PIL, BIL and SIL. We were all unpacking boxes in our new house and putting together furniture.

The carpenter did his job, I paid him and he left. I realised shortly after that he did an absolutely dreadful job!!!

He left oil/glue/residue marks of some kind in the middle of one of the carpet. It’s ruined!! 😭

Most of the doors are awful too (I’ve attached photos of a couple...they’re all the same). The bottoms where he has cut them are all chipped and jagged. They were freshly painted a few weeks ago and in perfect condition before he arrived.

One of the doors has been cut far too short and there’s now a 2.5cm gap from the floor!!

WWYD??

I don’t think you can expect the paint not to chip when he’s cutting the doors...that’s kind of inevitable and shouldn’t take much beyond a quick sand & touch up.

It does look like a big gap but is it to do with clearance where it opens? Sometimes they have to cut more away so they open properly.

Obviously the carpet is bad but will be hard to prove now you’ve paid him. I guess the best you can do is contact him and hope he’s reasonable?

i have a door like you'r last picture that shows a massive gap when shut but when it's opened at 90degrees it drags along the last bit of the floor behind it - in other words i have a sloping floor (it's an old old house tho)
