Steyning - good for families?

Hi,
Considering a move to Steyning with DH, DS and DD.
I come from Sussex, so the main reason for move would be to be nearer family.
Was wondering what Steyning was like to live in for a young family? It's very pretty, but is it a good place to live? Easy commute to Brighton? Shops? Schools etc?
Any and all experiences would be very helpful!
Thank you!

I grew up there. Not great for teens as not much to do and limited public transport. Horsham is better.
