Updating an avocado bathroom

We've got a horrible dark avocado bathroom, that I can't replace for a year or so. It currently has carpet tiles on the floor, so I'll have to replace those with vinyl for the time being, and beige tiles with a green - ish pattern.

Any ideas how we can make avocado look more modern?

I'm not sure you can, but maybe a modern geometric black and white or grey and white vinyl would lift it. If the tiles are flat, you could use tile stickers to cover over the pattern - there's a poster on here who'd used them to good effect in a kitchen and they didn't look like stickers. Less effort than painting and doesn't cover the grout.

I know someone in a similar situation who teamed it with really glamourous pink floral (maybe with birds of paradise or something?) wallpaper. It looked fab.

In my head it's got yellows and golds too, but I can't remember properly.

@whingeyarse has the answer, I think.

You can't possibly go discreet / understated with an avocado bathroom, so it's 'go big or go home' all the way.

An old friend of mine used to have one and had her walls entirely in a peachy pink/orange with red accents and colour explosion accessories. It actually looked ... um ... so nice that I sort of envied it. Blush

Have a look at this thread: www.houzz.co.uk/discussions/4833055/pale-avocado-bathroom-suite-money-for-paint-only

@whingeyarse do we have the same friend?

I think it's a paper very like this: www.johnlewis.com/matthew-williamson-bird-of-paradise-wallpaper/kiwi-w6655-03/p1885550 and lots of white and fuschia elsewhere, I honestly almost didn't notice the suite

Strong deep pink looks great with avocado. We had to do this many years ago. DH managed to chip off some awful inset tiles and replace them with a gorgeous art nouveau style tile in green and deep pink and we put up a luxurious pink silk type wallpaper on the upper untiled area. Sounds awful but looked great.

However, I have always had a white suite sinceGrin

Mine (though have now replaced toilet seat with a grey one). Some might find it boring but I find it relaxing. The suite is far better quality than I could afford new. And for extra 70s oomph, I covered the bath panel in the floor lino.

I love my avocado suite. I wouldn't change it for a boring white one. I have used burgandy, teal, aubergine, peacock blue and pine accessories. Fabulous.

I think a 20s pink Art Deco style would work OR go black and white geometric

MissLadyM · 08/08/2018 10:30

I'd love an avocado suite! A pal of mine had a pink one!

I'd get as much white in there as possible including white floorboard effect lino and paint on tiles. Then go with large print blind and shower curtain, wooden/natural/ tribal accessories and soap, candles and bottles similar to avacado colour and add lots of plants. Think 'rainforest' vibe with 40 shades of green on crisp white background so avacado looks like it was deliberate choice. Smile
