Urgent new boiler advice needed

Hi all

Live in London. Notoriously difficult to get (reliable) tradesmen to come and quote for work. The plumber / GCH engineer who comes much recommended by friends has finally returned my call to say he could come and do a site visit today! Great news.

We live in a 3.5 (3 dbls and a box room) victorian semi. In the long term we would like to do a large ground floor side return and rear extension and at that point in time, we'll be looking to get a megaflo installed. But for now, we need to upgrade our knackered combi (can continue to live in the same first floor landing airing cupboard).

What kind of questions should i be asking the man when he comes over? Are there any 'new combi boiler installation lessons learned type tips people can give?

At the moment we don't even have thermostats (apart from on the radiator valves themselves) so that will be top of my list!

"Can I see your Gas-Safe card?"

What did you measure the water flow at?

How long have you been in the business?
(later, compare that to the start date of his gas-safe registration, which you can look up online, and compare photo to his face)

Does your price include a powerflush and system filter?

Thank you PJ. I had already looked him up when family friend recommended him.

RE pressure (ours is dreadful but I have not actually measured it) he recommends relaying water mains pipe as we have an old lead connection.

Yes includes power flush but will ask re filter.
