Quick question about carpet colour

We’ve just had a proper roof put on the conservatory and will be removing the door so our lounge will open into the new room through the old doorway.

We are putting carpet in there but should we try and match the existing carpet or go for a contrast? There will be a normal silver door bar between the carpets. Lounge carpet is only 3 yrs old and cream - doesn’t show well in the photo but it’s very light!

If you can get an exact match, I’d go with that - almost the same will look odd. If not, a contrast.
Do you have to carpet? What about a rug on the existing floor?

We want it to feel like a proper room so the horrible laminate has to go! I absolutely hate it!

I know what you mean about not quite matching being odd. I’m going to try and find the receipt from the lounge carpet and see if it includes the name/make of the carpet. Our fitter thinks a contrast would be better because after 3 years an exact match can’t be guaranteed! I don’t really want to redo the whole lounge flooring - there’s nothing wrong with the three year old carpet so replacing it would be a waste.

I would go for a contrast because even if you find the exact carpet now three years later it won’t look the same and your existing carpet (especially a pale one) will be dirtier and maybe have faded in the sun etc.
