Structural engineer survey costs- how much is reasonable?

Hoping someone can give me an idea on this please? Have inherited family home recently, parents had an insurance claim and work done due to subsidence ( sorry, I know this word makes people cringe!) roughly 8 years ago. I'd like a proper structural survey done to make sure house is now sound but fees seem very high- how much did anyone else pay? Three bedroom semi detached .Many thanks to anyone that answers

We paid £330 for a structural engineer report after our main survey suggested hollow ringing in the floors of the house we were buying. It was from Structural Surveys Ltd who I think are based in Manchester. I was happy with their service.

PS We got a report for a specific issue but it was fairly complete when it arrived. 5 bed detached.

I paid £750+vat for one on a specific issue of concern (London)

Why would the house not be sound if the work was carried out properly? Underpinning for subsidence is usually bullet proof. I assume that underpinning was done?

You can easily see if subsidence is occurring elsewhere by the evidence of sizeable cracks in the external bricks. If you have other concerns get a survey done. Eg sagging roof, bulging walls etc.

Thanks to everyone who replied. House didn't need underpinning, the problem was caused by tree roots and tree was removed and work completed. My problem is not the house but insurance- I had to find a broker to get any kind of insurance and rates are quite high and get higher every year so I hoped a survey would reduce rates and give us some choice in insurance?

Sadly my parents didn't get work done when they should have and previous insurers declined cover. House is now blighted by subsidence claim! Only offer so far for survey was £1200!

Am I on a hiding to nothing here?
