Extra large notice board or black board

Does anyone have any inspiration how to incorporate a large notice board into a kitchen family room (without it looking terrible!) I'd like to use it for kids art work, school letters, and a weekly jobs type calendar. Can't find any examples I like though. I'm determined not to clutter up the fridge in this new kitchen!

Blackboard or magnetic paint?

Arewehomeyet · 28/07/2018 14:03

Been on pinterest but not found anything yet- will keep looking :)

Blackboard (and magnetic) paint could actually really work thanks

We couldn't find any magnetic chalkboard paint with good reviews and magnetic black boards are really expensive, so in the end we just bought a blackboard and put a strip of ferrous tape across it that we can stick magnets to.

Have a look at Pottery Barn website as they have a whole section of modular family organisers - not sure if they ship them to the UK but would give you ideas anyway.

Just paint the wall with chalkboard paint and then use an architrave to make it look like a frame. I know someone who did it and I couldn't tell.

thanks :)

My friend has what look like clipboard clips hanging on the wall to hold paperwork, maybe you could incorporate that for any heavier items that don't stick to the magnetic paint.

The insides of kitchen cabinet doors make brilliant places for kids art as makes you smile every time you open the door !
Putting calanders there too keeps your dates private to anyone looking through your windows ( to see when the house is going to be empty etc)

We bought a massive sheet of galvanised steel (really cheap from a sheet metal works) and painted it with blackboard paint. 4 holes drilled in the corners to hang it. Only cost about £20 all in for a massive magnetic blackboard. We used chalk paint to divide it up into the days of the week to make a schedule and attach forms to be filled in, appointment letters etc on each day.

Very boring, but we have a huge magnetic whiteboard in our kitchen. It was from amazon. Once it has the kids pictures on it it looks nicer and then we can write lists or messages onto it directly or magnet clip stuff on. Oh and I got picture rail hooks to hang over the top bit so my calendar hangs on the Board too.

GreenTulips · 29/07/2018 00:22

The white boards at cheaper!

We spray painted the back of a door with black board paint and added a shelf to hold black board pens (much nicer than chalk)

You could always do magnetic paint underneath

You could also clad a section of wall with cork tiles for a massive pin board- that's a Pinterest fave...

Angela, why have you replied to a year old thread about blackboards?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/07/2019 20:22

Angela do you want to know that I had a kitchen extension done a few years back and where some pipes were boxed in , I painted the area with blackboard paint .

Brilliant Grin

I tried some of the chalk pens , white ones ok but the multi colour didn't wipe off and I had to repaint the surface . So I just use chalk sticks .

As you were Angela (and when your post gets deleted this'll make bugger all sense)

Use the inside of wall cabinet doors for artwork and calendars etc ( so no one can look in the window and see when you are due at mums for the weekend etc) keeps things tidy too this way .

Blankiefan · 21/07/2019 21:57

I painted my door with blackboard paint. It was a rubbish flat 80s type door from the kitchen to the utility room. I love it now.

It's fab. Totally keeps us organised and everyone comments on it.

Old thread I know but thanks for the mention of ferrous tape - had never heard of that and have now ordered some from Amazon!
