St Mary Cray, Orpington

Can anyone tell me if it would be particularly unsafe or noisy living on the High Street in St Mary Clay (I am concerned about rowdy people in the street, not car noise)?

The 'Crays' have a reputation as an anti social area but, as always, this is concentrated around certain blocks. I think up towards Chislehurst would be fine or the Derry Downs/Chelsfield Rd area but admittedly I don't live in this area.

It’s always had a reputation as being quite rough, but not sure how anti social it really is, only been over that way during the day maybe have have a look at crime stats or local forums.

The high street in St Mary Cray isn't too bad for rowdy people etc, my friend lives there and not once have I experienced any problems when I stay with her or hear her moaning about living there. There is a primary school on that road though so may be a bit noisier at times when the children come out!

I saw these three messages earlier but have been technically challenged as to how to get back on my own thread! Thank you all so much. I have looked at the crime stats and also get the impression the High Street seems to be ok. I don’t mind (in fact I like) the sound of little kids, it’s people late at night drunk and shouting in the street that worries me. But as the one reply suggests, the person on that street hasn’t mentioned these kinds of problems. Hope to organize s visit down that way ASAP. It really does seem to be such a mixed area so it will be difficult to balance the benefits of a small patch with problems in much of the rest of the area. Thanks again.
