Storage solutions

We (my 2 daughters and I) have just moved from a large 3 bed rented cottage with lots of built in storage to a 2 bed rented cottage with no built in storage. We are only likely to be here a year before buying somewhere but I really need to sort some space saving storage for the bedrooms.
It is a period cottage so I don't know if a very modern look like Ikea would work but I guess it is potentially only short term.
I need storage to fit under two midsleeper beds (clearance 73cm) and a shallow dresser for my room preferably under 25cm in depth. Plus a shallow bookcase.
Any suggestions please?
At the moment I am sleeping on a mattress on the floor as my divan bed won't go up the stairs!

Is the storage under the bed for clothes or just stuff?

My ds has a desk, bookcase and drawers but they are part of the bed system.
Dd has some of the cube storage from Argos for her toys. She just has a 2 cube but the bigger ones would have fitted.

Go to a local auction, you'll find a shallow bookcase (and poss dresser) dead cheap.

Underbed storage—you can get those plastic boxes with wheels in a variety of sizes, e.g.

Try secondhand furniture and charity shops.
