Epic painting fail! Advice needed

Hi.
I live in a rented property which we are currently redecorating. The builders who painted before we moved in painted over everything in magnolia emulsion (urgh). I mean everything! All of the doors are a forest green gloss with emulsion on top. So every time you sneeze you peel the paint. I am tackling a room this week and want to repaint the wood with a white satin. How the hell do I restore the wood. Preferably without a week of sanding.

Any idea is a reasonable one.

Its expensive & won't give you a great finish like proper sanding & priming would but worth investigating.

If I sand enough to get down to the gloss and take the shine off would I be able to paint straight on? I have no idea about paint. I bought a little electric sander so hoping it won't be too big a job.
Thank you x

I suspect you’re going to be sanding for a week, but you could ask for advice at somewhere like B&Q. Good luck; it sounds like hard work..

Thanks.

The emulsion is going to clog up your sander very quickly. Can you get any of it off with a scraper?

Screaminginsidemeagain · 19/07/2018 21:37

Heat gun and scraper

My Dp is a decorator he says you can sand the door and take the shine off it, do an undercoat in acrylic primer then paint with the satin.

I'm not a decorator but have done exactly that in the past with good results. I've also done that with varnished wood that was horrible.

Well I just replaced all my internal doors and it was really cheap... depends how long you're planning on staying. Not sure I'd have done it in a rental
