Hoping to possibly buy one of two homes left in a new development but can't work out which to go for, if any. We currently have a south facing back garden and although it can get a little much we do love having the sunlight, dh thinks a little shade for dc would be good but I don't want too much shade as we can create our own.

Anyway, the two plots left are 341 and 343, so based on garden aspect which would you go for?

I’d go for 341 as I love a garden that’s long compared to its width. I think both aspects are fine, slightly prefer 341.

Killerqueen2244 · 14/07/2018 20:07

My instinct would be 341, doesn’t look as hemmed in as the other one

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 14/07/2018 20:13

Based on aspect I’d say 343. 341 looks to be NE facing which will mean less light on the back of the house in the winter months.

keepingbees · 14/07/2018 20:14

341 is almost east facing, I loved my east facing garden. However house 342 looks like it might block a lot of sun from the garden. 343 would likely get easterly sun from the side aspect, assuming there's not another house directly to the side.

Have you got a link to the actual plan as it’s hard to say without know big what’s around you and the height of surrounding properties

llangennith · 14/07/2018 20:20

341 for privacy, 343 probably gets more sun. As you say, you can make your own shade.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 14/07/2018 20:36

343 as all you will see at the bottom of the garden of 341 is the side of another houseConfused picture the bottoms of the gardens and you will see what I mean, it's not just about the light but what you can see when in the garden

FlippinFriday · 14/07/2018 20:42

343 because it's a properly square garden, although I'd prefer to also see the actual street view from each house before choosing.

Teggun · 14/07/2018 20:47

343 for me. I agree with MissCherry on both sun and position. The side of the house right against the boundary at the bottom would be a blot on the landscape.

hoochymama1 · 15/07/2018 09:03

343

Lonecatwithkitten · 15/07/2018 16:00
  1. 341 faces north east and the limited sun it could get is blocked by 343. 343 faces South East morning and afternoon sun, but not evening so bedrooms will be cool.
BehindLockNumberNine · 15/07/2018 16:10

343 as it has other gardens behind it. Whereas 341 has a house to the side, a road to the other side, a house behind, and a road to the front...

BubblesBuddy · 15/07/2018 16:28

I’m not sure I want a whole house at the end of the garden as in 341. This must block light at some point. Therefore 343 is possibly better because it has a more open aspect and the sun will reach the garden as it moves round during the day.

longtompot · 15/07/2018 16:29

My friends garden backs onto the side wall of their neighbours house. Its oppressive, they hate it, so for that reason I would go for house 343. That house also seems to have a more airy feel to the garden and I think would get more sun all year around.

Motherof3Dragons · 15/07/2018 17:01

No 343. You’ll get more sun throughout the day, the plot is square and doesn’t have an awkward angle. Also, no 341 is flanked by a road and overlooked by the gable-end of no 342.
