Help me decide what to do with the kitchen

(Apologies for crap drawing)

We are finally getting round to replacing our kitchen. The current layout is as per the drawing- hatched area being the units and so on along with a central island.

We currently have a dining table in the narrower part of the kitchen.

The large lounge area was once two separate rooms, but was knocked through well before we bought the house. We are now considering reinstalling the wall to divide the rooms, making a smaller lounge, but providing a separate dining room, and probably freeing up space in the kitchen for some sort of breakfast bar type thing as the central island is going.

Good idea or are separate dining rooms old fashioned??

We have a dining room off the kitchen with an island and breakfast bar in the kitchen. I like the flexibility and the fact that we don't have to eat in the kitchen with the clutter of cooking. Do you have a separate utility room?

I’d be tempted to knock that corner of wall out. Then add dividing doors to separate off a small front lounge or not

Yes we have a (very small) separate utility - it has a tall unit with the boiler in it, and space for a washer and one other cupboard.

Why don't you move your dining table to the back part of the lounge off the kitchen and see how it works for you? Try it out before you commit to anything.

Where are windows, that's important to know before you build walls which could cut out the light.
