no

Is it a Well Glass fitting (usually outdoors)

Is it written in English for a UK lamp?

Was it supplied with the luminaire?

What does the text say?

It is an interior (lounge) light fitting. The instructions for installing the light fitting are in English, manufactured for Homebase but no mention of the tool. It was supplied with the ceiling light fitting. The electrician told me it was for fitting or unscrewing the glass shades as the shades are too small for a hand to fit into.

We have one of these for the light fittings which were in our current house when we moved in. It is not for tightening the shades though, but removing the bulbs. When you look up inside the shade, there should be a circular ring above the bulb that has two rectangular lungs on it. The tool will have some corresponding lugs inside the top edge. You push the tool inside the shade, up to the ring and line the lugs in the tools up with those on the ring and then turn.

ah, a tool for removing light bulbs is more common. Some of them have long handles for changing bulbs without needing a stepladder.

oh perhaps thats what its for. The bulbs are screw in ones and I have always managed to change them without the tool. I shall take bulb out and see it I can tighten the shade.(its a bit loose) thanks for your help. and thanks to you too Caroian.

I got one of these with a ceiling light I bought from Next. It’s for changing the light bulbs. I don’t need to use it as I have small hands but man sized hands would probably need it.

Thanks to all who messaged me. I have managed to do it using the tool provided. Took the bulb out and used the gadget to tighten the shade. Voila!! Cheers!
