Covering hole where gas fire used to be

I have decided to pull out the gas fire in the living room as flat will be let and may pose risk with tenants not looking after it etc etc
I am going to put an electric fire in front of it but it will stick not look particularly nice. Any suggestions? Thanks

If it provides ventilation for the room via the chimney, don’t do what our gas engineer did and cement over it (because it will cause massive condensation issues!)

Can't you board it up and plaster over it? Leave a ventilation slot if required?
