Hi there!
We are currently looking for a house in Stockport area.We have been to Edgeley, which seemed nice. However I am thinking of checking Reddish as well.
Any thoughts on Reddish? North or South is better?
Any other opinions and suggestions would be helpful!
Thanks! :)

Edgeley is nicer imo.

I live in Edgeley. Relocating when we buy, largely because the noise from planes is unbearable. I underestimated when we were looking around just how frequent and loud they are. But if you’re moving from Wythenshawe, it might be an improvement!

We moved to Edgeley from Ancoats. The crime in Ancoats was getting out of control and we also wanted a more family friendly, less transient community.
I cannot rate Edgeley enough. First and foremost there is a real community spirit which we never had in Ancoats.
some of the youth can be unruly but as house prices increase those types will hopefully be pushed out of the area.

We moved to the West part of Edgeley. When researching we kept reading that the Reservoir area was better - this is complete nonsense. Maybe it was years ago but not now for sure. Lots of FTB moving to the area which is always refreshing. I suspect when the new development is completed Edgeley is only going to become more desirable. Castle street needs tackling though, with the gentrification that’s happening right now, this street needs to adapt to offer more ‘nicer’ options. Move here now why it’s still affordable, otherwise you’ll find yourself priced out given it’s an up and coming hotspot.

Edgeley is a wonderful area - with beautiful Victorian terraces - the area reminds me of Balham in London. We have recently moved here from central Manchester - there is an active community, with very friendly residents who are actively involved in enhancing the community. So you can say, it's up and coming due to the nature of first-time buyers. Location wise - it's perfect, 10-minute walk to the train station that will take you to London or Manchester - 15 minutes walk into the town centre.
The bonus here is that the new West Town development with its new bars and restaurants will be a ten-minute walk away. Sits near Junction 1 of the M60. Close to Cheadle, Heatons and Didsbury. So if you fancy going out somewhere different, it's a cheap and short cab ride away.
The area is also really, really quiet. The only sound you hear are the aircrafts that fly over to the airport, mainly landing so the noise isn't too loud. I personally find it rather soothing.
I would say but now, before the house prices start to get too high - given The Time update on Stockport, this is really going to drive more interest.

Edgeley is a wonderful area. A nice mix of housing - I love terraces, they're actually quite spacious too. Lots of people are moving here from Didsbury and Chorlton as they see the potential in the area. House prices are shooting up so if you plan to buy in Edgeley - you should move quickly, it took us many viewings before we secured our house.

Hi all - I know this is an old thread but we are looking to put an offer on a house in Edgeley. Looking at schools in the area, they all seem to be good schools - would be great to hear some local thoughts?
