So we are buying our first house after renting for 10 years. I adore the house we are buying (from what I can remember from the viewing and the photos online!) and in theory should be over the moon. But the fact that it seems to be taking a while and solicitors are dragging their feet, its so frustrating - where we live whenever we have moved from rented to rented, we see a house, pay a deposit and potentially move in in a week or two! I suppose I am after a bit of reassurance that it will be worth the wait to get those keys, though it seems like a dream at the moment! The only positive I can think of at the moment is that I cannot wait to be able to paint/decorate my girls bedrooms to how we want them and not live in a magnolia world like most rented properties! thoughts??

It takes bloody ages and usually for no discernable reason! You'll be in a better position than most as well as you're not selling... Push for an exchange and completion date and politely chase regularly to see what the hold up is (usually ppl on holiday). It is worth it though!

I didn't really get excited until we walked into the door of our new house. We've been really happy since then, so I suppose I just needed to get through the process rather than enjoy it. Don't feel too bad if that's your experience as well!

thanks - so glad to hear that - I am definitely a glass half empty girl and dont feel remotely excited - just underlyingly anxious! People keep telling me to enjoy the ride! I dont like rides..I wouldnt ride a horse, or a rollercoaster! Glad to know its ok to not be buzzing about it!

I felt the same, by about month 4 my enthusiasm had waned big time, I was fed up of living in limbo. By this time last week I was well and truly fed up and didn't care about moving.

We have been in a week tomorrow and it is so right. Just feels like we are on holiday though.

I am in the same boat! Love the house, but have already been burned twice with other houses (one of which got to 16 weeks before we had to pull out because of it going nowhere). This time we are terrified about mortgage offer expiry and the fact we're in a chain and time running out and the rest of the chain possibly not caring! It's so stressful and nerve wracking just waiting for paperwork to come back, wait for stuff to be done, fearing everything could be bad news or a delay at the very least. This is our first house we're buying too. So I can't offer nice stories but can offer solidarity! We have to hang in there!

I'm still planning stuff for the house but in a very jaded way because I'm so down about the whole thing.

Hang in there! I have been in exactly the same situation. When we first bought we pulled out of one house as it was taking bloody ages and the people we were. Using from seemed in no hurry despite us having a rental property to move out from! The next house then pulled out on us (which broke my heart) and then finally we found another and after 4 months eventually got the keys and it was fabulous! It is sheer torture buying a house but once it’s done, you will love it!

We’ve got 7.5 weeks to go until we can move into our new house! We’ve been renting for about ten years too! We’ve been packing boxes for two weeks, just one or two boxes every couple of days! I’m excited and anxious a little tiny bit. I will be so extremely excited to paint colourful walls and put up pictures and mirrors and have more space:)

thanks for the replies. I am trying to be more positive today and going to pop and get some new bits for the new house, I really hope we get some news soon!!
