Buying a property with solar panels..

Does anyone have any advice regarding buying a house with solar panels installed? Particularly good or bad experiences or if it’s caused any problems. Threads I’ve found on the internet tend to be from some years ago.

At this point we have no information about whether they are paid for or contracted or whether we should even be worried about it- I like the idea of saving money and helping the environment but not if it may cause issues down the line.

Many thanks

I only have anecdotal information, but I've heard they are very expensive to maintain and have a short life (10 yrs). That was a few years ago though so perhaps the technology has improved.

if they belong to a householder, no great problem. You might save a few pounds a week on electricity, and earn a bit by selling it to the grid. Depends when they were installed and the tariff structure. If you take a dislike to them you could have them removed. If they were badly installed there might be some damage to the tiles.

However, if the roof has been leased to some other company, who owns the equipment, has the rights to the revenue and might be entitled to come and tinker with them, and you might have some obligations, take more care.

Thanks guys, I'll proceed with caution. Best to speak to the estate agents in the morning.
