House name ideas for a 1920'/30s semi. Help please!

Hi all, we have just had an offer accepted on a 1930s semi. It's got a lovely feel to it, and I think it could do with name. I have no idea where to start. I thought I would look up house names from that era, or there is an maple tree in the front garden which would lend itself to being called maple tree house? Any suggestions welcome. I'm very uncreative when it comes to things like this! Haha

I think Maple House sounds good? Maple Lea, Maple Hayes, Maple Lodge, Maple Hurst, Maple Villa...

Are there local Pre or suffixes for place names that you could use? - stead, - ton, - ley,

You could look locally to historical, literary, geographical themes, or withing your family for a village/town or maiden name that feels right.

We need a pic!

Something themed with Maple sounds very appropriate.

As someone whose job involves home visiting though, please keep your number too!! If you're something like;

Maple Tree House
34 Walton Avenue

I at least know where to look - otherwise it's hours of delivery drivers, health visitors, community nurses, family & friends etc having to start way up at 106 and check every house on the way down!!

Maple House is perfect I think. I always had plans to rename my house The Beech House because it has a beech tree and I hanker after a beach house.

The council will have rules about naming houses - you have to pay to change an address unless there's been a mistake. The council's list then gets sent to Royal Mail for them to update their address database.

I will echo @6DinnerSid

As the owner of a named house PLEASE keep your number it's the most annoying thing in the world!

wowfudge · 27/06/2018 13:17

We have a named house with no number too. We are well-versed in giving directions but the number of people who think they know better and stick the postcode in their satnav then wonder why they end up half a mile away and can't find us....

BigFatBloomers · 27/06/2018 18:27

How about Maplestead?
It sounds quieter literary.

MummyHT · 27/06/2018 22:31

Thanks everyone, I do love Mumsnet for all the love and advice you get!. Its clear from your comments that I should keep the number Haha. I can see how it could be annoying to explain all the time. I also like that something maple tree connected has proved popular too. Smile

@wowfudge that made me laugh. I often abruptly stop people who try to give me directions (because I have a satnav) then I get lost and I’m usually too ashamed to call them at that point 🙄

RhythmStix · 28/06/2018 12:34

Maple syrup?

PlanetPiffle · 28/06/2018 12:36

I live on a lane where none of the houses have a number and it’s fine AS LONG as your house name is clear and visible from the road.

MadisonAvenue · 28/06/2018 12:40

Maple View

We lived in a 1920s house called Fern Dell - no idea where the inspiration came from as it was in a town centre and nowhere near any ferns or a dell for that matter.

helpmum2003 · 28/06/2018 12:40

Agree on keeping number. Our house is name no number (was when we moved in) and it's a problem as whole road is the same......
