To move or to extend?

Hi.
5 years ago my husband and I moved into our first house. It's a 1950s ex council house. 3 bed terraced with a big garden, 3 sheds/ outbuildings, great loft space and a big garden.
Now we have 3 kids and want one more bedroom and more downstairs space. In an ideal world I'd like to live closer to town too...
We have sold our house. But I can't find anywhere bigger in budget without compromising on our storage space and garden.
We can afford to borrow quite a lot more, but do we want to?
Any thoughts on whether to extend or move?
Many thanks

I'm planing on extending! Cost of moving is horrendous. Also could do loft and rear extension at different times as / when can afford.

Depending on where you are would the build costs be cheaper than moving? Would it add to the value of your house?

I think there is a ceiling price as it's ex-council. But we have stunning views and lots of garden. Neighbours have built whole properties in their garden. So I'm guessing if we spend £50k we can make it back. To move to a 4 bed we'd have to borrow an extra £100k.
I also can't be bothered with the hassle of moving. Just viewing houses is a PITA with 3 small kids. Would an extension be just as hard? And would it take longer?
Thanks

Get a loft conversion company to send their architect round. We did this and he confirmed our suspicions that to extend our house wouldn't be cost effective due to the footprint.

We chose to extend because it made financial sense. If you would make money by extending I would do that and then decide whether to sell when you're finished. I think we're staying put. Everywhere is so expensive now and with three little children I don't have the energy to move to a do-er-up-er to move up the ladder.

Extend, every time! You're not extending to make more money; you're doing it for more space! Moving is horrendous, so stressful - and what's the point unless you find something that's at least as good as you've got?

If you extend it'll be cheaper, and yes it'll be inconvenient but worth it!

Your house sounds fab! Just extend, who cares if you go over the ceiling price if you create the perfect family home for your kids and yourself?

Our house sounds very similar, three bedrooms, massive wrap around garden, drive but I wanted more living space so we did an extension. Not going to lie, it was disruptive for a couple of months which was hard with young kids but the difference we’ve made to our lives is amazing. Me and the kids sit next to the bifolds looking out into the lovely garden watching the birds and I know we did the right thing. Our mortgage is still about 108k so haven’t got a big mortgage like we would if we’d moved.
