Anyone know which is the best? They seem to vary in price

They have to confirm to standards, etc so just buy one from a known retailer and not some dodgy eBay reseller, preferably a brand you've heard of.

My local fire dept provides and installs these free of charge. Worth checking to see if yours does?

You can get one fitted when you have your gas boiler serviced.

My eldest daughter died of carbon monoxide poisoning. I'd advise anyone to have at least one carbon monoxide alarm on each floor of your home. Remember too that carbon monoxide can come through from an adjoining property. Make sure you buy an alarm from a reputable manufacturer that see that it meets BS 50291. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms have an end date - you can keep replacing batteries but when you reach the date, buy a new one as the sensors can deteriorate. Test your alarm regularly - Test it Tuesday. We have an alarm that also sends a message to our phone. It is more expensive but after losing one child we are naturally extra careful. Make sure too that all your carbon burning appliances are regularly serviced by a registered engineer - Always ask to the the Gas Safe Register card that your engineer should have.

abas Flowers I am so sorry to hear about your eldest daughter.

I currently have one I got from Wilkinson's but the gas engineer at work suggested Honeywell. I will get one when we move as the boiler is in one of the bedrooms.

But don't get the spot ones, they are pretty useless.
