House move - recommendations!

We're waiting on a final completion date for our house move but likely to be in next fortnight or so. We haven't found a property yet so will be moving in with parents until we do. This means most of our belongings will be going into storage!
Does anyone have any recommendations of good ways to protect our stuff whilst in storage (I've been looking at mattress bags on Amazon etc). I've ordered a packing kit and taken some surplus boxes from work but we're just worried about the potential of damp/damage to our furniture whilst we're in storage for who knows how long!

Thanks in advance.

Make sure all the water is removed from your washing machine - I didn't & had to have 2 side tables re-varnished as a result. Otherwise everything was OK.

Also make sure you fridge and freezer are dry/defrosted. Someone in a storage unit next to us didn't do that and the water ruined a lot of stuff. I would also look for a storage locker with a dehumidifier in it so things stay dry and don't get any damp in over the colder months.

done it.

make sure it is a climate controlled warehouse not a container.
fridge and freezer - empty, dry and propped slightly open . use a piece of polystyrene and fix in place with masking tape. remove glass shelvrs and pack separately.

buy packing stuff from local shops or the storage place, amazon are expensive. also ask on freecycle. label all boxes on top and sides.

took me days full time to pack, consider packers. remember storage insurance.

as you havent exchanged ask for a fortnight to completion. you will need it.it

when you buy again , dont complete on a friday if possible as you wont need to.

We bought storage bags which you can fit 3-4 seater sofas from Amazon, but stored the cushions in separate bags which we stored in attics. Similar for the piano. We had a dry lockup garage but stored everything on pallets, and put a groundsheet over things by the door just in case the rain came in. Yes yes to keeping white goods doors open to ventilate. We also got bags from local carpet shops to roll up and store carpets and rugs in

Who is arranging the storage? You or the removal company? If it's you I've had a large storage lockup with Big Yellow for nearly a year ( long and horrific divorce, not able to stay at my house due to violence and house sale) they have been great the lockup unit is dry and temperature controlled has light and is very secure. I've put large fridge magnets in the edge of the units to stop the fridge and freezer doors closing completely and bought some great Dimpa bags quick hold loads

Ask lots and lots of questions if it's the removal company as heard plenty of horror stories involving Containers and even a lorry being stolen
