Ikea washbasin with non-Ikea taps?

Hoping to have this in our new bathroom. Ikea says you have to use one of their taps - no others will fit. Has anyone managed to use another brand of taps in their bathroom sink?

We replaced the sink in our old bathroom and the old (non-Ikea) taps worked just fine.

We’ve put two Ikea basins in six months ago and used non Ikea taps no problem.

I used an ikea sink and Victoria plumb taps - there was a big gap I had to sealant in...

VikingBlonde · 18/06/2018 13:46

I mean not so big it is a huge problem but I did notice it at the time! (I dont' now)

oh brilliant - thank you so much for the replies!

I don't suppose any of you have the Hemnes/Odensvik combination? And if so, the waste/underneath part of your non-Ikea taps didn't interfere with the wash-stand/drawer arrangement at all?

We have that combo!

You can’t stack it high in the middle, but the drawer closes fine.

We have the Godmorgen/Odensvik combination in 2 bathrooms and a separate toilet, and we use Grohe mixer taps on all 3 without any problems whatsoever. Our plumber specifically told me NOT to buy Ikea taps as they're a bit crap, although their units are fine and basically the same quality as ones in the high end bathroom shops near us!

PrimalLass · 18/06/2018 16:18

It's absolutely fine

Thank you so much everyone - especially Dragons for the photos.

Amyboo, I haven't seen anything remotely as nice as the Hemnes unit for less than about £800 either

We have the Godmorgen/Odensvik combination wth a Bristan tap, no issues at all. We did use the waste that came with the basin. There's at least 10cm space behind the drawers so with flexible connectors it's not an issue at all.

I don't recall ever reading that they could only be used with Ikea taps only.

Our unit came from the bargain basement section so was only 60 quid, the prices of foil wrapped chipboard from bathroom places were ridiculous.

That combination looks lovely tizwozliz. It was Ikea who said other taps wouldn't fit. we called their customer services

Only thing I'd add is that please make sure you get the unit level. I had a plumber that thought he was above spirit levels installing mine and it makes the drawers stuff (prob cos they're all skewed) Hmm

Happy new bathroom to you OP

We have the Hemnes units in both bathrooms, with Bristan taps.
