House surveyor overbooked and cancelled

Bank valuation and survey booked for yesterday. Told yesterday morning surveyor was sick needs to be rescheduled to next Thursday.

Dh call real estate who change the story to the surveyor was overbooked and cancelled ours.

Does this really happen, overbooking surveys?

I'm so pissed off with the system here I just want it to be done and never buying in England again

It is not unheard of for this to happen. Rare but not unheard of.

Perhaps not a complete reflection of the house buying system in England as a whole, mistakes happen everywhere from time to time. But the way your post is phrased suggests this isn't the first hiccup to have occurred along the way.

It's the system. We accepted the offer 8 weeks ago and stopped viewings as requested but there's no security (for them or us). I'm packing as I feel I need to do something but we don't even have an exchange date let alone a completion date.

We are moving internationally but can't organise anything.

It's just such a crappy system here.

I would be beside myself I think actually being in a chain (we're both chainfree).

8 weeks, and they're only now arranging valuation and survey??

If they're at this stage there's not much point discussing exchange/completion dates.

Get your EA to stick a rocket underneath them. The system is far from perfect, but shouldn't be that slow.

This is apparently a bank valuation and survey together so it's 'The bank's fault for it taking too long'

Dh had to call yesterday as I said I wanted it back on the market and he thought I was being unreasonable!

I personally would never stop viewings or remove from the market until surveys are completed. At least then, some money has been spent so people must be a little bit serious!

Put a rocket up someone’s bum! I feel for you though. If there was a standard timeframe everyone could work to, it’d be great!

I hear you, OP.
It's taken five weeks from the offer we made on a property being accepted to getting to the bank valuation being instructed stage. I thought the complete process could be done in 6 weeks! We are so stressed! We are in a chain and you're right it's maddening. There are six sales in our chain so if everyone's is going as slowly as mine we'll be lucky if we're in my Christmas at this rate!

@Dickybow321
The average length of time for a sale to go through is 12 weeks, so you appear to be making typical progress. 6 weeks was an incredibly optimistic expectation!
