Depends. Are you overlooked and do you care? They don't have to be lacy. Sheer voiles panels can look elegant.

Yes

I was never keen but had to get them for the windows in our new place as they're huge windows & right on the street.

I just got fairly cheap straight voiles from Wilko, no fussy lacey details and they look fine. I thought I'd hate them but I really don't mind them at all

Yes - from a privacy point of view. Also agree avoid lace/frill/flowers plain or a slight line in them far nicer.

FoofFighter · 14/06/2018 14:12

yes.

I have voiles, as I am overlooked. A plus is that they soften sunlight, useful if your house is East -West.
Shutters can look weird from the outside. Slat blinds can be dark.
My voiles are also from Wilko.

I like lace, voiles and nets, for their own sake as well as privacy and light filtering.

Voiles or sheer panels are often in hotels and in interior design photos.
I have some nets (3 on small windows) and they're there for privacy. I think I've only had one friend poke fun at them.

Yes. Just don’t get dodgy flowers patterns.
