Long Ditton or Berrylands

Hi ladies, if you would have to choose between Long Ditton and Berrylands, which area would you prefer? We've seen houses which we like in both areas, but can't decide which one would be better for a family with small kids. Thanks

unless something has changed, go to Berrylands and sniff. Then try Long Ditton and do the same.

could always tell when going through Berrylands on the train, although it was a while back so I really hope something HAS changed...

Long Ditton feels friendlier and more community minded, also very good schools. Berrylands is a bit more rough and there is definitely a smell to it with the sewage works around there. Surbiton would be best, more amenities, quick transport link to London, lovely places by the river, great schools and community and also closer to Kingston shops.

I’m in Surbiton - the smell in Berrylands doesn’t seem to extend too far from the train tracks. However there is a sweet spot in Berrylands where you’re not troubled by the smell and the community and houses are still really lovely.

Long Ditton schools not as good as eg Christ Church but I know lots who are happy there, and Long Ditton is lovely and would be my choice of the two.

It sounds ridiculous but if you can, make sure you are in an area/primary school catchment that would feed into Hinchley Wood for secondary. Great secondaries are few and far between, especially if you have boys.

I lived in Berrylands for a while. All I remember is that it smelled.

Thanks a lot for the advice, it looks like Long ditton is a nicer area, we will try to move there. X
