Patio quote - is it fair?

Hi all,

Hoping for some advice on whether a quote I have received for a new patio seems fair/good value. This is the first time I've had to get anything like this done so I am completely clueless on average prices for labour/materials.

Tasks involve:

  • Dig out an area to accommodate a 9m by 4m patio (currently consisting of old patio/concrete/grass/ soil borders on a slightly sloped surface)
  • The waste to be put in a skip (skip hire)
-A small retainer made from sleepers inserted at the top of the patio to retain soil from rest of garden
  • Some of the existing concrete to be broken up to reduce level outside the back doors
  • A step inserted into the sleepers to allow access to the top of the garden
  • Kick boards along the bottom of the fence to cover any gaps
  • Indian sandstone slabs (2 packs)

I've been told the work will take 5-6 days with two people on site.
Labour £1300
Materials £1450
Total - £2750

The company is local and reputable with positive reviews on trader comparison sites and a gallery of work available online.

Thoughts welcome..

That seems very reasonable to me.

Sounds reasonable to me too. We're paying £5k for similar work 8m x 5m.

Luc450 · 07/06/2018 18:14

Seems very reasonable , we paid on par for 3 x 8

Great thanks everyone. :)

Zone 2 London or county Durham?

Misty9 · 07/06/2018 23:05

Blimey we paid 6.7k for a smaller area! Looks great though

East midlands. Original quote was £3,300 but after a bit of negotiation this was the second offer.
We're going to go ahead with it anyway, thanks for your help!

Sounds fair. We've just had our patio done and it took a week!

nellly · 08/06/2018 06:57

We just has a very similar area done in Yorkshire, additionally we had a fence approx 3m long put in and some steps repaired and total was 3500 over a similar length of time so seems about equivalent

That's a very fair price, I would go ahead if I were you, especially as the landscaper is well thought of and you can see and like their previous work. I would actually say you're getting a bit of a bargain there. For reference, I work in a builders merchants Grin

Wow, I think that's really cheap! Look at what their daily rate would be. Would you feel moral paying less? I wouldn't. Presumably they have families to feed/lives to lead too.
