Limestone Patio

Ive just had a pale grey limestone patio put in. Every time my kids drop crisps or spray suntan lotion -around - it stains. Must be the oil. Looks rubbish. It fades after its rained. but v annoying. I know there were issues about limestone but i thought it was just the fact it fades quickly from black to grey. Didnt realise its cos its so poreous. Anyone else got any ideas how to clean it quickly to get rid of stains or how to prevent - eg a good sealer. If i can be bothered. Didnt realise so high maintenance as would have had concrete or sandstone instead which were similar price.

thanks all.

Are you sure this is limestone? I tend to see it marketed as York Stone. Sandstone is very porous (I would not have it again) but we do not have problems with our York stone at all in the way you describe. How much was it per M2?

thanks i dont think it is York stone. I think that is something much more substantial. Yes i bought it as limestone from local place and similar price to sandstone about £25 a square metre.

It does sound like you need to seal it. I've been recommended Lithofin (not yet used it). I've bought from this website after shopping around: www.pureadhesion.co.uk/tile-sealers-sealing/limestone-sealers.html

I went for dark grey limestone and it definitely needs to be sealed. Every little mark shows up 🙈. Will it look glossy once sealed?

Thanks guys - I can look at sealing it. I have tried cleaning with bicarbonate soda and this seems to help a bit. Helps when it rains as well to clean it .
