Anyone had a glass (or other) veranda over decking ?

Hi all

We love sitting out - we have composite decking which doesn’t need maintenance & doesn’t get slippy. We have a semi-permanent gazebo in one section at the moment, but it’s on its second canopy so I’m thinking of a replacement.

Has anyone had a veranda built, with open sides but glass top (or polycarbonate)?.

If so - are you pleased? Does it get too hot / stuffy like some conservatories? Does it need maintenance? Is it too loud when it rains?

Anything else to consider?

Thank you!

Cleaning it.

Place marking as my husband would love a glass canopy in our tiny north facing mid terraced garden. I'm not convinced but would love to know others thoughts.

We have one. It doesn't get too hot as there's fresh air from the sides, and I don't notice the rain noise.

I like that we have a covered area outside the back door in cold/wet weather even if it just means the dustbin is under cover. On warm summer days we can eat outside even if it's raining, and we use it more year round than we would if it was uncovered.

It hasn't needed any maintenance and is probably about 10 years old, just cleaning, which can be a bit of a pain, but it's attached to a flat roof extension so I sit on there and clean it with a very long handled mop. Otherwise I would have to go up a ladder. I think you can stand on the glass if you need to for maintenance but I don't feel confident about doing that. Ours is white, but a darker colour would probably be more practical from a cleaning point of view.

I like having it but it was hugely expensive for what it is, so not totally sure it's worth it - probably depends on how you would use it.

Thanks @purplegreen

Good to know it doesn’t get too hot; that’s my main concern.

I thought I’d ask our window cleaner to clean one if we needed to.

This is so funny, I was looking for discussions on Verandas because I really want one too!

But I don't know whether it's worth it or not.

I have seen some really beautiful ones but I think they are more high end.

Plus financially, I don't think I can justify it because I don't really NEED one.

But definitely on the wish list. I think it's all this nice weather we are having at the moment - doesn't help!

I really like their products - their doors are like something out of Back to the Future haha! Like super giant.
