Tampon down a macerate toilet

A guest blocked our macerator toilet two days ago. We only realised a few hours later when it sounded like a horn going off(!)

We turned it off and I've bailed out the water 4 times but every time we flush it fills to the brim and makes a horn noise.

Guest told us she flushed a tampon down. Really don't want to involve landlord if there's anything we can do ourselves?!

You'll need to get into the unit and remove the tampon. The likelihood is that the string is caught round the blades, hence why flushing it isn't clearing it. Turn the power off (or you'll lose a finger or worse!), bail out all the water, put some old towels down and undo the jubilee clips that connect the unit to the toilet. You should then be able to see into the macerator itself and possibly unwind the string. If not, you'll need to take the lid of the macerator unit off and get to it from the top. Make sure you check where the rubber seal sits though, as this will need to go back exactly where it was when you put it all back together.

Thank you so much @Monkeybunkey I just looked at a YouTube video about the blade. I'll give it a go - it may well be beyond me Shock

Put on old clothes first! We had the same issue and when the plumber tugged at the pipe leading to the unit he was sprayed in liquid poo. 2 day old poo.

He was gagging - I was gagging. It was truly terrible. And the clean up was horrendous.

Quite possibly the one you've seen, but I found this video helpful when I had a macerator:
