Hi we are thinking of moving to Devon but not sure which area to look in, we want to run an artist retreat small camping site.

Any advice, will also need a good school for my daughter she has Aspergers and is in a main stream school

Thank you

Do you have any idea of area at all? Obviously Totnes and Darlington area is good for artists but on the camping/ clamping front it’s a fairly saturated market.

Also how old is your daughter? My ds is 5 and autistic in mainstream school. If you’re arty one thing I would strongly recommend against would be the South Devon Steiner. The couldn’t have made it clearer to us that my son was there to be a free spirit but only if he fitted in perfectly with everyone else. Also a parent came to collect their child on a donkey (only at a Steiner school).

*Dartington not Darlington!

Hi, she is 14 she doesn't fit in well at school and has no friends but at the same point is happy in her world of imagination and is very bright, I just hope we find a school where the kids are kind

I am not worried about the market being saturated as we have things to offer to draw people to our site.

Most of the places I can find for sale with land are in the middle tiverton sort of area, what is that like ? any idea

I appreciate its a big question really as obviously depends what we want but I suppose I am really asking where to avoid

Tiverton itself is nice. There’s an arty type place in the nearby village of Bickleigh (Bickleigh Mill, I think it’s called). The countryside around there is lovely and Tiverton is very easy to get to from London on the train. I don’t know about schools around there though, I’m a bit further west.

If you're going to set up a business, wouldn't it be sensible (and business-like) to do your research by going to look at some sites, perhaps be a customer at a camping site similar to the kind of thing you're planning, talking to local Chamber of Commerce, reading a local newspaper or two, rather than ask randoms on the internet?

In my experience (used to work in Exeter) Tiverton doesn't have the "arty" reputation of Totnes or Dartington. Quite the reverse. There's not much there. What about closer to the coast?

Hello Ingrid303, I know this thread is probably dead but wondered if you took the plunge and moved to Devon?

We are currently in Bath, looking to move to Devon and have a daughter with Aspergers in a mainstream school. We'd love to buy some land to start a business... did you find what you were looking for?
