WC accessed from the garden?!

Would this be a crazy idea! We are currently redesigning our downstairs, and ATM the loo gets in the way of accessing the garden from the utility. We could move it (but then have no window) or I thought maybe have access through the loo. And then I thought actually that would be really handy Grin.

There's no room for a shower too or that would be ideal!

Am I going crazy or is this a good idea?

It's very old fashioned and may put off any future buyers. I wouldn't personally.

Move it and have no window

ApolloandDaphne · 26/05/2018 15:28

That would be very odd. Just move it - a downstairs loo doesn't need a window. Out last 3 houses have had windowless downstairs loos.

Wouldn’t put me off as a future buyer.
If it gives the access you want, why not.
Watch out though op, there are very conservative and rigid rules on Mumsnet, people won’t like itWink.

Nobody goes house hunting thinking “oh I do hope I can access a loo directly from the garden” and it will actually be a negative for most people.

If I’m hanging washing out or passing food out for the barbecue, etc, I’d rather be doing that through a utility room or kitchen, rather than through a toilet.

Would you have other access to your garden or would that be the only door? If it's the only door then no, it would put me off as you'd have to lock 2 doors before using the toilet.

There will be big doors at the dining end of the kitchen. Also a separate rear porch but nOt very close. Seems like the consensus is it’s not a moment of genius! It’s just an annoyingly awkward room with a huge supporting wall so would be difficult to incorporate into the utility. But point taken it would be annoying having to lock 2 doors and walk through the toilet to hang washing out.
