Where to buy in Edinburgh

We currently live abroad but want to buy a property in the uk to have something there for later in life - we are thinking about Edinburgh but have no idea where is good to buy. It will be rented out until we move back.

Where would be good areas to consider.?

I think it depends how much you want to spend, and if you want to live in it yourself. Do you want to rent to students, or professionals?

I think I would rather rent to professionals. Slim chance we live in it -more likely will sell later to buy something to live in

Edinburgh housing advice

This recent thread may be helpful to you.

I live in Edinburgh but before recommending any areas it would be useful to know your budget, type of property you would like and how central you want it.

Yesiamhappy · 24/05/2018 20:42

I think 200 to 300 and would like to be central but flexible a bit on both location and cost

Desirable areas for renters are Stockbridge, Comely Bank, Bruntsfield, Morningside - have a look on ESPC & see what's available. You'd get a 1-bed in these areas, possibly 2. Don't forget the "offers over" system here. The market currently is very strong, with a minimum 10% over home report value & most places in desirable areas going to closing dates.

Also bear in mind the limitations of AirBnB (max 3 months a year) & recent LL legislation, plus taxation changes. Perhaps see an IFA to find out if it stacks up financially.
